GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon coasted in the opener after exploding for six runs during its first at-bat. The Lady Knights did so with seven hits while sending 11 batters to the plate. All six runs scored with two outs.
  • Freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) and sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) produced two-run singles in the first. Senior Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and senior Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) also had RBI hits.
  • Two innings later, Gannon put the game out of reach with five more runs in the third. Four of those five runs also came with two outs. The big blow was a two-run double by junior Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel).
  • Sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower) and freshman Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added RBI singles. Moran scored Gannon's 11th run on a wild pitch.
  • Slippery Rock got on the board with a single run during the top of the fifth inning, before the game was called after 4 1/2 innings due to the eight-run rule.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Both Martinez and Smith recorded two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
  • Bates and Pacheco went 2-for-3 with one runs and one RBI.
  • All nine starters recorded a hit.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits. She struck out five without issuing a walk.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Wednesday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed due to cold temperatures.
  • Gannon reached double digits in runs for the third time this season.
  • The Lady Knights had double-digit hits for the fifth time in 2016.
  • Martinez recorded her team-best eighth multiple-hit game.
  • Gumbita tossed her 15th complete game of the season and 38th of her career.
  • Gannon erupted for at least six runs in the first inning for the second time this season after scoring seven times during its first at-bat in a 13-2 win against Glenville State at the Salem Invitational on March 12.
  • Gumbita moved into Gannon's all-time top 10 with her 30th career victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • After two scoreless innings, Gannon plated the first three runs during the bottom of the third inning. Senior Alexa Archambeault's (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) two-out, bases-loaded walk pushed the game's first run across. Smith followed with a two-run single to center field for a 3-0 lead.
  • The Lady Knights tacked on what appeared at the time as an unnecessary run in the sixth when Martinez blasted her first home run of the season over the center field fence. However, the bomb turned out to be the winning run.
  • Slippery Rock rallied for three runs with two outs during the top of the seventh inning. After Megan Maloney singled home the first run, Katie Kaiser hit a two-run homer to left field.
  • The Rock then produced back-to-back singles, before Perich got Caitlin Baxter to ground out for the final out.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Martinez went 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI out of the lead-off spot.
  • Bates, Archambeault and Smith recorded Gannon's other three hits.
  • Perich tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits. She struck out six and walked one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Wednesday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed due to cold temperatures.
  • Perich tossed her seventh complete game of the season.
  • Gannon swept its fourth consecutive home doubleheader against Slippery Rock. The Rock's last victory in Erie was a 4-3 verdict on April 19, 2012.
  • The Lady Knights have won four straight games for the first time since April 18-21, 2015.
  • Martinez became the second Lady Knight to record four hits in a game this season. Archambeault performed the feat during a 14-2 victory against Lake Superior State at the National Training Center (NTC) Games on March 3.
  • Smith entered the doubleheader with one RBI through 26 games, before having multiple-RBI performances during both contests.

  • Perich struck out a season-high six hitters.
  • Martinez recorded her team-best ninth multiple-hit game.
  • Gannon jumped into second place in the PSAC Western Division with eight regular-season games remaining. The top three teams in each division qualify for the PSAC Tournament.

  • The PSAC West doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
