Gannon Softball Team Opens Weekend Road Trip With Setbacks at Seton Hill

  • The Short Story: The Seton Hill softball team's bats were red hot as the Griffins pounded out 30 runs during a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader sweep of Gannon Friday afternoon at the Seton Hill University Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Seton Hill made quick work of the first game with five runs during its first at-bat and three more during the fourth inning.
  • Kaitlyn Kutchman needed only one of those runs as she tossed a five-inning no-hitter.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Freshman Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) was hit by a pitch in the third and sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower) walked in the fourth to ruin Kutchman's perfect game.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) dropped to 7-5 while tossing a complete game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gumbita recorded her 35th career complete game and 12th of the campaign.
  • Gannon was no-hit for the third time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Seton Hill remained red hot during the second game, jumping out to a 20-0 lead after three innings.
  • The Griffins scored four times in the first, seven in the second and nine in the third.
  • Gannon plated a pair of runs during the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) scored the first run on an error, before junior Jenn Krider (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Linesville) scored on a fielder's choice.
  • Seton Hill added one more run during its turn in the fourth, before capping a 21-2 victory.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) went 3-for-3 out of the lead-off spot.
  • Sophomore Katie Eckelberry (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) came off the bench to record two hits in two at-bats.
  • Krider also came off the bench and produced a hit during her only plate appearance.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Martinez recorded her team-best sixth multiple-hit game of the season, producing three hits in a game for the second time.
  • Eckelberry had two hits through the first 21 games, before doubling her total.
  • Krider recorded her first career hit.
