GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Mercyhurst jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings with two runs in the first and three in the third.
  • Gannon was limited to four hits through four innings, before breaking the seal with a three-run fifth inning. All three runs came with two outs. Sophomore Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) started the rally with a bases-loaded infield single. Senior Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) followed with a two-run single to center field, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
  • The Lady Knights tied the contest on junior Jen Moran's (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) two-run double to right field with one out in the sixth. Senior pinch runner Sarah DiOrio (Hunker, Pa./Hempfield Area) and senior Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) scored the tying runs on the play.
  • Gannon completed the comeback during the top of the seventh inning. Bates led off with a double to left center and moved to third on a bunt single by sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower). Senior Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) then singled to center field, pushing Bates across with the eventual winning run.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) closed the door shut during the bottom half of the inning. After allowing a two-out infield single, Gumbita got the final out with a fly out.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Bates, Pacheco, sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and freshman Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) recorded two hits each.
  • Moran and Bates finished with two RBIs apiece.
  • Gumbita improved to 7-4 while tossing another complete game. She struck out eight and walked one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Wednesday's doubleheader was a make-up for the twinbill originally scheduled for last Friday that was postponed due to inclement weather and field conditions.
  • Gumbita recorded her 34th career complete game and 11th of the campaign.
  • All nine Lady Knights in the starting lineup recorded a hit.
  • Six different Gannon players scored a run.
  • Gannon reached double digits in hits for the third time this season, falling one shy of its season-high (14) set during a 14-2 victory against Lake Superior State at the National Training Center Games on March 3.
  • Bates jumped into Gannon's all-time top 10 in RBIs with 105, moving past Allison Gerger (2003-06) and into a tie with Missy Kimble (1993-96) for ninth place.
  • Moran batted lead-off for the first time in her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon reversed the first-game direction by scoring first during the nightcap. The Lady Knights struck first when freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) led off the third inning with a single, before Moran blasted a two-run home run to left field.
  • Mercyhurst knotted the contest at two with a pair of runs during the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lakers also had the bases loaded after tying the game, but Perich was able to retire the final two batters without the go-ahead run scoring.
  • Moran led off the top of the seventh with a double to center field and moved to third on a ground-out. Two batters later, Bates drove home the winning run with a single down the left field line.
  • Perich then clinched the sweep by setting down the Lakers in order during the bottom of the seventh inning.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
