HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon opened a 10-0 lead after three innings, beginning with a four-run first at-bat. Redshirt freshman Nate Cardy's (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) RBI single plated the first run, before sophomore Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) doubled home a pair of runners. A fourth run scored on a throwing error.
  • The Golden Knights erupted for five more runs during the bottom of the second. The rally began with a two-run homer by redshirt senior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills). After a fielder's choice scored the third run, sophomore Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahicko) had an RBI single and junior Nick Restuccia (Ormond Beach, Fla./Father Lopez Catholic) produced an RBI double.
  • Gannon extended its lead to 10-0 when senior Chris Beer's (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson) sacrifice fly pushed senior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) across the plate.
  • IUP finally dented the scoreboard during the top of the fourth, but Gannon responded with Benack's lead-off homer and another run on a throwing error during the bottom half of the frame.
  • Gannon's lead ballooned to 14-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by sophomore Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and sacrifice fly by Oruch.
  • Both teams scored three runs during their at-bats in the sixth inning. The Golden Knights produced all three on one swing of the bat via Cox's three-run bomb to left field.
  • Indiana (Pa.) made the game interesting with seven runs during the top of the seventh, before freshman Nick Fuchs (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) ended the game with a strikeout.
