HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon continued its habit of scoring first with a pair of runs during the top of the third inning. Sophomore Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) scored with two outs on senior Jared Wiesen's (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) bunt single. Wiesen then stole second base and scored on redshirt senior Mark DeVita's (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) single to left center.
  • Indiana (Pa.) cut the deficit in half with a single run during its half of the third inning, but Gannon grabbed the run back in the fifth. Oruch led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Nick Restuccia (Ormond Beach, Fla./Father Lopez Catholic) and scored on Wiesen's single up the middle for a 3-1 lead.
  • The Crimson Hawks answered with a run during the bottom of the fifth, climbing within a single tally once again.
  • Gannon then provided itself with breathing room, scoring single runs during the sixth and seventh innings. Redshirt freshman Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) led off the sixth with a single, before moving to third on a bunt single by sophomore Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and sacrifice bunt by sophomore Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville). He then scored on Oruch's sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 4-2.
  • The Golden Knights added an insurance run in the seventh with three consecutive singles by DeVita, senior Chris Beer (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson) and Cardy.
  • Junior Santiago Mendez (Potterville, Mich./Lansing Eastern) completed his masterpiece on the mound with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning.
