HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon scored its first run of the season during the top of the second inning. Sophomore Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led off with a single. With two outs, he stole second base and scored on a single by junior Nick Restuccia (Ormond Beach, Fla./Father Lopez Catholic).
  • Limestone answered with three runs during the bottom of the inning, but Gannon bounced right back with a four-run spot in the top of the third.
  • The Golden Knights scored all four runs with two outs. Three runs came home via errors and one scored on a wild pitch.
  • Limestone added a run during the bottom of the third inning and forged ahead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
  • Trailing 6-5, redshirt senior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) drilled a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Gannon then forced extra innings by turning a double play with runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Golden Knights had a chance in the top of the eighth, but stranded runners on second and third.
  • Limestone loaded the bases during the bottom of the frame with two walks and an error, before Brandon Hood's single to right center gave the Saints a 7-6 walk-off victory.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Oruch finished 2-for-4 with two runs.
  • Restuccia also recorded two hits in four at-bats.
  • Redshirt junior Aaron Jackson (Sugar Grove, Pa./Eisenhower) received the opening-day nod on the mound, but received a no decision.
  • Freshman Ty Phelps (Pomeroy, Ohio / Meigs) allowed only one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief during his collegiate debut.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Five of Gannon's top six hitters scored a run.
  • The Golden Knights dropped their opener for the first time since 2011.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • For the second straight game, Gannon struck first. The Golden Knights scored twice during their first at-bat on an RBI single by redshirt freshman Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) and sacrifice fly by sophomore Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson).
  • Limestone tied the contest with a pair of runs during the bottom of the second inning, but Gannon responded immediately with two more tallies in the top of the third.
  • Senior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) drew a lead-off walk and scored one out later on a double to left center by senior Chris Beer (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson).
  • Limestone countered with an eight-run explosion during the bottom of the frame that gave the Saints a 10-4 lead and appeared to put the game out of reach.
  • However, Gannon returned the favor with an eight-run spot of its own during the top of the fourth inning. The runs scored on a two-run double by Wiesen, two-run single by Cardy, three-run double by sophomore Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and sacrifice fly by Restuccia. The final blow gave the Golden Knights a 12-10 advantage.
  • The momentum swings continued as Limestone drew even again with another two runs during the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • For the third time in the game, Gannon immediately responded to Limestone runs by scoring during its next at-bat. The Golden Knights produced the eventual game-winning run when Cardy led off with a single and scored on Cox's one-out double to center field.
  • Gannon added three insurance runs during its last at-bat on a suicide squeeze by DeVita, a throwing error on a double steal and Benack's two-out double to center field.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Cardy headlined the damage by going 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.
  • Wiesen went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.
  • Cox chipped in a 3-for-5 showing with one run and four RBIs.
  • Wiesen, DeVita and Beer scored three times each. Senior Bobby Roach (Erie, Pa./McDowell) joined Cardy by crossing the plate two times each.
  • Freshman Matthew Yough (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) earned his first career victory during his collegiate debut, allowing one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
  • Junior Nico DiPaolo (Bridgeville, Pa./Bishop Canevin) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Gannon's top four hitters went 9-for-17 with 11 runs and eight RBIs.
  • The Golden Knights' 16 runs were their most since posting a 20-4 home victory against Clarion on March 25, 2012.
  • Gannon's eight-run fourth inning was its biggest inning since scoring eight times during a 10-5 win at Limestone on February 8, 2015.
  • The 28 combined runs were the most in a game involving Gannon since the Golden Knights posted a 20-18 victory at Indiana (Pa.) on April 18, 2009.
