HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was a shoot-out as both teams combined to score 42 points. Seton Hill made the initial surge, jumping out to a 13-6 lead during the opening five minutes and 51 seconds.
  • Gannon was able to cut the deficit to 23-19 following senior Amanda Berchtold's (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) lay-up with two ticks left on the first-quarter clock.
  • Back-to-back baskets by freshman Elisa Ellerbrock (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) and senior Jennie Thies (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) midway through the second quarter brought Gannon even for the first time since the opening 90 seconds of the game.
  • However, Seton Hill quickly snapped the 25-25 tie with a three-pointer by Mariah Wells. The Griffins held the lead for the remainder of the first half and took a 30-27 advantage into the intermission.
  • After three more ties in the third quarter, Gannon started to take control during the final three minutes of the stanza.
  • Thies scored on a lay-up with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter for a 37-35 lead and the Lady Knights never trailed again.
  • Consecutive lay-ups by senior LaShawna Gatewood (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) and Thies pushed the Gannon lead to 43-37, before a Seton Hill three-pointer cut the deficit to 43-40 after three quarters.
  • A three-pointer by sophomore McKenna Shives (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) 39 seconds into the fourth quarter ignited a 19-4 run that lasted the remainder of the game. Shives drilled three triples during the decisive run.
  • A 10-0 blitz consisting of two Shives three-pointers and two Ellerbrock baskets pushed the Gannon lead to 58-42 with 3:57 to play.
  • Gatewood's lay-in with 2:05 remaining capped the scoring and gave the Lady Knights their biggest lead of the evening at 62-44.
