Records: Gannon (0-1), University of Charleston (1-0)

The Short Story: Charleston scored three goals during both halves and cruised to a 6-0 victory Thursday night in the season opener for both programs. The Golden Eagles scored first in the 13th minute, before opening a 3-0 lead after 29 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charleston went on the attack early, taking the first five shots of the match. The Golden Eagles scored off two of those attempts.
  • Three different Charleston players scored during the opening 29 minutes. Will Roberts tallied the first goal off an assist from Augusto Maciel in the 13th minute.
  • Kevin Feucht and Renan Ramos added goals during the 17th and 29th minutes to give Charleston a 3-0 halftime advantage.
  • Ramos and Roberts recorded their second goals of the match during the second half, bumping the difference to 5-0.
  • Felipe Antonio's score with 3:21 remaining accounted for the final 6-0 score.

GAME NOTES
  • Senior Robbie Bennett and redshirt junior Gavin Linsell produced two shots each, accounting for all but three Gannon shots.
  • Gannon was out-shot 15-7.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon was shut out in a season opener for the first time since a 2-0 defeat at Houghton during the 2008 lidlifter.
  • The Golden Knights are in the midst of a season-opening four-match road swing. The program hasn't opened a campaign with four straight road affairs since 1989. However, three of those four contests were on neutral fields.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon only has three days to regroup before hitting the road again. The Golden Knights return to action Sunday, September 7 at Notre Dame (Ohio). Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
