HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon came close to scoring the first goal in the 59th minute. Freshman Ted Martin (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) almost made a great sliding redirect off a crossing pass, but his shot ripped off the upper post. Sophomore Sergio Kobowane (Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edward VII) then got the rebound, but his ensuing shot was stopped in front of an empty net by a West Chester defender. Redshirt senior Tyron Springer (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. David's Marist Inanda) followed with a header 13 seconds later that went wide.
  • Almost three minutes later, Adarkwah got behind the Gannon defense with a deflected pass from Giovanni Mowrey. He then beat a diving Gannon goalkeeper into the lower right side of the goal.
  • Gannon provided plenty of pressure the rest of the way. The Golden Knights' best opportunity arguably came in the 76th minute. Redshirt sophomore
  • Connor Pletz (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) ripped a shot from 25 yards out, but West Chester goalkeeper Matt Palmer made a diving save to his left.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon out-shot West Chester 15-7, including a 6-3 edge during the first half and 9-4 advantage in the final 45 minutes.
  • In contrast to the 45 fouls and six yellow cards called during Friday's contest against East Stroudsburg, Saturday's match featured only 17 fouls and one yellow card.
  • Gannon managed to put only six of its 15 shots on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon concluded the first weekend of PSAC action with a 1-1 record after posting a 4-1 victory against East Stroudsburg Friday afternoon.
  • The Golden Knights were shutout 1-0 for the first time since October 31, 2010 against Mercyhurst.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon has only two days off after a hard-fought weekend before returning to action Tuesday, September 23 at Cedarville. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Golden Knights will only have one non-conference match remaining after Tuesday's affair.
