Gannon Women's Lacrosse Team Ends Road Trip with 15-9 Victory at East Stroudsburg

Senior Margaret Maslyn stopped 11 shots Saturday afternoon at East Stroudsburg, reaching double digits for the fourth time this season.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Stevie Lombardoni (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) tallied four goals each as the Gannon women's lacrosse team wrapped up a weekend road trip Saturday afternoon with a 15-9 victory at East Stroudsburg.

East Stroudsburg was the aggressor at opening draw, ripping off the first three goals of the match. The lead later stood at 4-1, before Gannon out-scored the Warriors 8-2 during the rest of the first half.

Back-to-back goals from Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and Lombardoni knotted the contest at five with 10:36 left in the first half. After East Stroudsburg regained the lead with a score, Gannon responded with the final four goals of the stanza to assume a 9-6 halftime advantage. Lombardoni created the bookends of the run with a pair of goals, including the final score with 14 seconds left.

Gannon put the match away with a 4-0 run during the second half. Goals by Tessa Mitchell (Rush, N.Y./Rush Henrietta), Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Neagle and Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) turned an 11-8 lead into a 15-8 cushion with one minute to play.

East Stroudsburg won the battle in ground balls (21-19) and fewest turnovers (16-20). Gannon was the best in shots (31-25), saves (11-10) and draw controls (16-10).

Neagle and Lombardoni led the offensive play with four goals each. Valentine, Mitchell and Bright added two scores each. Mitchell dished out a team-high two assists with four other Lady Knights being credited with one assist each. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) recorded 11 saves between the pipes, reaching double digits for the fourth time this season.

Gannon improved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). East Stroudsburg dropped to 6-3 overall and 1-3 in conference action. The Lady Knights return to action Tuesday, April 1 at Slippery Rock. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
