HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Chad Petterson (Westville, South Africa/Westville Boys) scored the contest's first goal 12:20 into match, heading in a corner kick from Bennett.
  • Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Shippensburg erased the deficit when Josh Gannon converted a penalty kick 1:52 into the second half.
  • Shippensburg forged ahead in the 58th minute after Dylan Smith scored his first goal of the season off a rebound. Brooke Moyer took the initial shot with a header, but Matthew Dixon's (Durban, South Africa/Westville Boys) save bounced back to Smith.
  • Gannon turned the heat up with four consecutive shots in the span of 10 seconds. Shippensburg goalkeeper Evan Raimist made consecutive saves on Petterson, freshman Ivan Viveros (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) and senior Alex Perri (Valencia, Pa./Mars) within seven seconds. But redshirt senior Tyron Springer (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. David's Marist Inanda) finally broke through by scoring the game-tying goal off the final rebound with 18 minutes to play.
  • Gannon's next shot came 8:35 later and proved to be the winner. Freshman Ted Martin (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) started the play with a long cross from the left side. Bennett headed the ball into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

GAME NOTES
  • Shippensburg took five shots during the final nine minutes, but couldn't score the tying goal. Dixon turned away three of those five attempts. The Raiders had three consecutive corner kicks during the final 3:29, but none resulted in a shot.
  • Almost every statistical category was even. Shippensburg led in shots (18-16) and corner kicks (9-4). Gannon held a 12-10 edge in fouls. Both teams recorded eight saves.
  • Springer's game-tying goal represented his first score of the season. Perri was credited with his first assist for the season on the same play.
  • Dixon made a season-high eight saves. He set his previous season-high Friday afternoon at Millersville with seven.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon recorded its second come-from-behind victory in as many days. The Golden Knights overcame a 2-1 second-half deficit Friday afternoon at Millersville, before winning on Bennett's game-winner 4:26 into overtime.
  • Bennett's game-winner was his 42nd career goal, moving him into a tie with Dag Magnusson (1993-96) for seventh place all-time at Gannon.
  • Bennett's goal and assist gave him 99 career points. Only nine Golden Knights in program history have scored 100 career points.
  • Gannon moved to 3-1 in the PSAC to create a five-team tie for first place.
  • The Golden Knights have won consecutive matches for the first time this season.
  • Gannon improved to 6-2-1 all-time against Shippensburg.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon concludes a four-match road swing Wednesday, October 8 at Bloomsburg. The Golden Knights are 12-1 all-time against the Huskies. Bloomsburg is tabbed sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Atlantic regional rankings. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
  • Seven of Gannon's first nine matches this season have been played away from Gannon University Field.
