Tournament: Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament
Location: Pomona, Calif. - La Verne Aquatic Center
The Short Story: The Gannon men's water polo team opened their time on the West Coast at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament Friday at the La Verne Aquatic Center. The Golden Knights dropped both matches to begin play at the tournament falling to California Lutheran, 17-12, and Occidental, 16-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heading into the break, the California Lutheran Kingsmen secured a 12-5 lead over the Gannon Golden Knights, as the Kingsmen erupted for seven goals in the second quarter. The second half  of the game resulted in the Golden Knights outscoring the Kingsmen by a 7-5 advantage, but the first-half lead was too much for GU to overcome.
- Sophomore Marko Sadikovic (Stara Zeleznicka Konlonija, Yugoslavia/Gimnazije) led the Golden Knights with four goals. Senior Raz Yuval (Kibbutz Yagur, Israel/Carmel Zvulun) scored three goals followed by senior Cody Sherman (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) with a pair of goals. Freshmen Gilberto Millan (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) and Nick Williams (Bainbridge Island, Wash. / Bainbridge Island), and senior Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) each recorded a goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Danny Schneider (Fullerton, Calif./Troy) compiled six blocks in the match.
- California Lutheran entered the match ranked eighth in the latest Varsity Division III Top 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holding a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, the Occidental Tigers were able to take a 7-5 advantage into the break. The Tigers managed to extend their lead to 12-7 in the third quarter before adding four more tallies in the fourth for the 16-9 win over the Golden Knights.
- Yuval led the Golden Knights' attack with three goals followed by Millan with two tallies. Junior Adam Wolf (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), senior Jake Ouellette (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch), sophomore Michael Squeglia (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) and Sadikovic each added a goal.
- Sophomore Nick Fagen (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) registered seven blocks in the start.

Gannon returns to action at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament Oct. 4, with a pair of matches. The Golden Knights open the day against La Verne at 3:40 p.m. EST before wrapping up play against Chapman at 7:40 p.m. EST. La Verne is ranked third in the latest Varsity Division III Top 10, while Chapman is tied for fifth.
