The Short Story: The Gannon men's water polo team opened their time on the West Coast at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament Friday at the La Verne Aquatic Center. The Golden Knights dropped both matches to begin play at the tournament falling to California Lutheran, 17-12, and Occidental, 16-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED- Heading into the break, the California Lutheran Kingsmen secured a 12-5 lead over the Gannon Golden Knights, as the Kingsmen erupted for seven goals in the second quarter. The second half of the game resulted in the Golden Knights outscoring the Kingsmen by a 7-5 advantage, but the first-half lead was too much for GU to overcome.

HOW IT HAPPENED- Holding a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, the Occidental Tigers were able to take a 7-5 advantage into the break. The Tigers managed to extend their lead to 12-7 in the third quarter before adding four more tallies in the fourth for the 16-9 win over the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights open the day against La Verne at 3:40 p.m. EST before wrapping up play against Chapman at 7:40 p.m. EST. La Verne is ranked third in the latest Varsity Division III Top 10, while Chapman is tied for fifth.
