Gannon Women's Water Polo Team Heads to Eastern Championships This Weekend; Video Webcasts Available

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's water polo team continues post-season action this weekend at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championships hosted by Brown University April 27-29. The Lady Knights will kick off action Friday at 1 p.m., facing the host institution.

Seeding, which was determined prior to the tournament, saw Western Division Champion Michigan earn the top overall seed. Southern Division Champion Princeton grabbed the second seed. Indiana was third followed by Maryland and Hartwick to round out the top five seeds.

Brown earned the sixth seed, ahead of Harvard, Bucknell, George Washington, Mercyhurst, Gannon, Notre Dame College and Salem International. Salem International has since withdrawn from the tournament due to injuries, resulting in 5-0 forfeit victories for any schools scheduled to play the Fighting Tigers.

General admission ticket prices will run $10 for a day pass and $25 for a tournament pass good for all contests during the weekend.

The CWPA will be providing a video broadcast for fans unable to make the trip. Costs for the broadcast include $9.99 per game, or $25 for the weekend championship package.

The Bears (19-15) finished second at the Southern Division Championships, falling to champion Princeton by a 9-8 score. The Tigers broke an 8-8 tie in the final seconds to earn the title.

Gannon is led offensively this season by Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif. / Tustin) and Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) The duo have combined to score 125 of Gannon's 271 goals this season. Andrews, who owns 65 tallies, is coming off an eight-goal game against rival Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights battled to a 17-16 double overtime loss with the crosstown rival.

Harriger has 60 goals this season while also leading the team in assists (44) and steals (62). Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and Libbie Guina (Houston, Texas / Clear Brook) have shared time in goal, recording 96 and 104 goals respectively.
