Erie, PA - Follow Gannon Volleyball in Central America! The team will spend the week of August 2 - 9 in Nicaragua, where they will play several matches against the Nicaraguan national team and perform community service throughout the country. Each day this week, Gannon players will write journal entries recording details of their adventure abroad. We hope you'll check back to read details of this once-in-a-lifetime trip!
To start off our fourth day in Nicaragua, we walked to a local restaurant called El Timon. There, we helped with an English class intended for Spanish speaking waiters so that they can better interact with English speaking tourists. While there, we broke into 3 groups and worked on small talk that would be useful in a restaurant setting.
From there, we started onward towards our adventure through the Nicaraguan jungle. In other words, we went ZIPLINING!! When we arrived at the “Flying Frog Canopy Tour” attraction, they suited us up in our safety equipment. There were 17 lines to “zip” on while riding through the jungle, providing an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean, a waterfall, and the beautiful landscape of Nicaragua.
After finishing our canopy tour, we all rode back to the Pelican Eyes resort to enjoy a nice lunch in the open air. After lunch, we were given the option to stay at the resort and swim at the infinity pool or to go to the ocean and surf. At the resort, the infinity pool gave a gorgeous view of the pool, which appeared as if it just dropped off into the ocean. The girls at the pool enjoyed their time sun bathing, playing games in the pool, diving competitions and cannon-balling directly next to coach Darling. The group that decided to go to the beach must have enjoyed themselves, since we are still waiting for them to return!
For dinner tonight, we are returning to El Timon in our best apparel and enjoying the evening with each other, as each day is closer to our return home. At dinner tonight, there will be a forty piece orchestra ensemble where we plan on having some fun! Tomorrow is another play date, and we'll also visit a school to do some art projects with the kids. Stay posted for day five of our adventures!
