Day 2
We began our second day in Nicaragua with a delicious breakfast buffet. While we were eating, the driver and his assistant loaded our luggage on top of the bus and covered it with a tarp. After we finished eating we traveled two and a half hours to the city of San Juan del Sur. During the drive we saw the Masayo volcano, an active volcano and famous landmark in this country. (Rumor has it that we will go visit the volcano sometime this week.)
We arrived in San Juan del Sur in time for a quick lunch on the Pacific Ocean before taking an adventurous drive to the ocean for swimming and surfing. And by “adventurous” we mean driving through creeks, passing ox-drawn carts, shouting “Hola!” to every local we saw, and frequently ducking to avoid low hanging branches. It was the craziest drive all of us have ever taken! Tim, our guide, gave us a brief surfing lesson before we hit the water to test our skills. Experiencing the beautiful scenery from the water was unforgettable. The waves at this local surfing spot were bigger than we expected, but nonetheless we had an amazing time.
We returned back to the hotel to get ready for a tasty dinner at a local Italian restaurant, where we feasted on various pastas. We discussed our plans for tomorrow, and are extremely excited for what lies ahead of us here in Nicaragua. We will be playing a different Nicaraguan National team squad tomorrow, and we are expecting around 300-400 fans to fill the local sports center. It will be AWESOME!
