ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's
Mark Demski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and
Alfonso Scandrett (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court announced recently by the organization.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts of student-athletes off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. In addition to being a junior or senior varsity player with at least one year of residency at their current school, he must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2009-10 academic year.
Demski produced a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Marketing. A three-time academic all-conference selection, Demski averaged 4.4 points and 5.3 rebounds last season, before suffering a season-ending injury. He played in 11 games, starting 10.
Scandrett owned a 3.49 cumulative GPA as a Biology/Pre-Med major. A two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete, Scandrett earned a spot on the NABC Honors Court for the second time. He averaged 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 2009-10. The Greensboro, N.C., native played in every game last season, starting 16.
