WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Gannon baseball team lost two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division games at California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon. The Vulcans won by scores of 5-1 and 4-1 at CONSOL Energy Park to complete a four-game weekend sweep.
In the first game, Cal scored two runs in the first. GU scored a run in the top of the third inning, as
Jeff Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) led off with a double. He advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a
Kyle Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell) base hit to centerfield. The Vulcans answered with three more runs in the bottom of the frame and Tyler Zimm locked down the Gannon offense from there.
Michael Tomko (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) went 2-3 and Jones had a hit, a walk, and a run scored.
The Golden Knights got on the board first in the second contest, as
Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) reached on an error to lead off the game. With two outs, Lipp stole second base and then Tomko walked. Lipp moved to third on a wild pitch and then stole home on a double steal to put GU up 1-0. Gannon could not get much going after that, however, as it posted just five hits.
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) had two hits, while
Shaine Patsilevas (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled.
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) took the loss, pitching six innings. He gave up four earned runs on six hits while striking out six batters.
Gannon (17-17, 11-9 PSAC) next travels to Fredonia State Wednesday, April 14, for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. A complete box score for Saturday's first game is available
