Gannon Men's Water Polo Team Wraps up Season With Win Over Washington & Jefferson

Daisuke Takagi scored five goals to help Gannon defeat Washington & Jefferson on Sunday.
ANAPOLIS, Md. – The Gannon men's water polo team wrapped up the 2010 season on Sunday with a 13-7 win over Washington & Jefferson. The win secures the fourth consecutive winning season for the Golden Knights and the seventh overall under head coach Don Sherman.

Gannon wrapped up play in its fifth match at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship this weekend, earning 7th place at the tournament with the win over the Presidents.

The Golden Knights used a 5-1 advantage in the second quarter to hold a 7-2 lead at the half. The two teams would play even in the third quarter, each scoring three goals. Gannon would secure the win in the final eight minutes, out-scoring the Presidents 3-2, earning the 13-7 victory.

A pair of freshman led Gannon's scoring effort as Daisuke Takagi (Tsukuba, Japan / Namiki) scored five times while freshman Gio Martino (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas) netted three goals. Senior Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla. / Stoneman Douglas) added a pair of scores.

Gannon finishes the 2010 season with an 11-10 record.
