ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men's water polo team completed the season sweep of Penn State Behrend on Sunday afternoon at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion with a 16-7 win.
The Golden Knights held a 3-2 advantage after the first quarter. The two teams matched the scoring in the second to sit at 6-4 at the half. Gannon would explode for seven goals in the third quarter while holding Behrend to just two. Holding Behrend to just one goal in the final quarter allowed the Golden Knights to seal the 16-7 victory.
Eight different Golden Knights scored in the match co-led
Gio Martino (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas) and
Greg Naranjo, (Coral Springs, Fla. / Stoneman Douglas) who each had three goals.
Tommy Nimrod (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) and
Daisuke Takagi (Tsukuba, Japan / Namiki) added two goals in the win.
Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) had 15 blocks in goal for Gannon.
Gannon is 7-5 overall on the season and 6-2 in conference matches. The Lions fall to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in Collegiate Water Polo Matches (CWPA)
Gannon's next action comes at the Division II Eastern Championships on Saturday October 23 and Sunday October 24.
