No. 4 Gannon Women's Basketball Team Rolls to 25th Consecutive Regular-Season Victory

ERIE, Pa. - The No. 4 Gannon women's basketball team shot a blistering 71 percent (22-31) in the second half and pulled away from Bloomsburg 93-55 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game at the Hammermill Center.

The victory extended Gannon's program-best start to 15-0. In the process, the Lady Knights won their 25th consecutive regular-season game dating back to last season, The squad's last regular-season loss was a 65-52 setback January 24, 2009 at Indiana (Pa.).

Gannon took control midway through the first half, using a 25-10 run to assume a 35-16 lead. The run lasted nine minutes and six seconds, extending a 10-6 lead to a 19-point advantage. Kristina Freeman (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial), Tiffany Crocker (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Julie Kleber (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) hit consecutive three-pointers at the end of the run. Kim Vargas (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) scored on a lay-up with 17 seconds left in the half as the Lady Knights went to the intermission with a 40-25 edge.

Whatever hope Bloomsburg had went out the door in the second half when Gannon scortched the nets at a 71-percent clip. The Lady Knights slowly built their lead to a game-high 39 points on two different occassions. Kelsey McCoy's (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) three-point bomb with 4:40 remaining gave the home team an 84-45 lead. Caitlyn Lowe's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) triple with 39 ticks left on the clock accounted for the final 93-55 score.

Brittany Tabron (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) led four Lady Knights in double digits with 16 points and eight rebounds, hitting 7-of-8 shots. Freeman netted 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Vargas and Carrie Nolan (Girard, Pa./Girard) added 13 points each.

Gannon shot 60 percent (36-60) from the field, 48.3 percent (14-29) from three-point range and 70 percent (7-10) from the free throw line.

Kayla Oxenrider headlined the Bloomsburg attack with 13 points. Dana Wieller chipped in 11 markers. The Huskies shot 31.7 percent (19-60), 17.4 percent (4-23) from behind the arc and 72.2 percent (13-18) from the charity stripe.

Gannon improved to 15-0 with the victory. Bloomsburg dropped to 8-3. The Lady Knights return to action Sunday, January 10 against Mansfield at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
