ORANGE, Calif.-The Gannon women's water polo team lost 11-10 in double overtime Wednesday, dropping their season opener to Chapman. Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda) scored four goals to lead the Lady Knight offense. 

Chapman took a 4-3 lead after one quarter, but Gannon went into the locker room tied at six with two second-period goals. Each team scored a goal in the third quarter and both teams tallied three more in the fourth, sending the match into overtime. GU and Chapman scored a lone goal in the first overtime, forcing a second extra session, where the Panthers scored the game-winner. 

Greenhill led the team with 62 goals last season and got off to a good start in 2009, leading the team with four scores. Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Kendra Plackemeier (Bonsif, Calif./Fallbrook) each had two goals for the Knights. Lauren Myrick (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Katelyn Hansen (Erie, Pa./McDowell) also scored for Gannon. Libbie Guina (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) made nine saves in net. 

Gannon is ranked 10th in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 this week. The Knights will take on the California Institute of Technology Thursday, March 5. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern.
