Urbana Nails 14 Three-Pointers While Completing Season Sweep of Gannon Men's Basketball Team

URBANA, Ohio - The Urbana men's basketball team hit 14-of-20 long-range bombs against the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) best three-point field goal percentage defense and completed a season sweep of Gannon Saturday afternoon with an 85-59 victory at the Grimes Center.

Gannon allowed its opponents to shoot a meager 19.6 percent (9-46) from behind the arc in the first three games, but Urbana bucked the trend on its home floor. The Blue Knights went 7-of-12 from three-point range in the first half and then drilled 7-of-8 attempts in the second half. Robert Wilson, who entered the contest 1-of-14 from long range, was perfect in five three-point attempts.

The contest was tied at five when Urbana used an 11-4 run to assume a 16-9 lead with 11:06 left in the first half. The lead stood at 23-14, before the Blue Knights produced another sizeable run. This time, it was a 13-4 blitz over a span of six minutes and 48 seconds. Marcus Pearl's jumper at the 1:14 mark gave the home squad a 36-17 advantage. His bank shot at the buzzer send the Blue Knights into the intermission with a 38-21 edge.

Gannon was never able to claw closer than 16 points in the second half. Daren Dexter's (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) jumper with 8:53 remaining brought the Golden Knights within 64-48. However, Urbana out-scored Gannon 21-9 in the final 8:36 to account for the final 85-59 score.

Dexter led the Gannon offensive unit with 14 points and seven rebounds. Travis Brannen (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) added 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks off the bench.

Gannon shot 32.4 percent (23-71) from the field, including a 26.5-percent (9-34) clip in the first half. The Golden Knights shot 31.6 percent (6-19) from three-point range and 87.5 percent (7-8) from the free throw line.

Wilson led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds, hitting 8-of-11 shots. Clint Nicholson and Charlton Conner added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Urbana shot 53.2 percent (33-62) from the floor, including a 57.6-percent (19-33) pace in the final 20 minutes. The Blue Knights shot 70 percent (14-20) from behind the arc and 71.4 percent (5-7) from the charity stripe.

Gannon dropped to 1-3 with Saturday's loss. Urbana improved to 7-2 with its third consecutive victory. The Golden Knights have two weeks off before returning to action Saturday, December 19 against Glenville State at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
