Gannon Men's Water Polo Falls to 20th-Ranked Bucknell at CWPA Southern Division Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - No. 20 Bucknell out-scored Gannon 8-1 in the first half and rolled to a 16-5 victory Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championships hosted by Princeton University.

Bucknell jumped on Gannon early, out-scoring the Golden Knights 5-1 in the first quarter and then posting a 3-0 shutout in the second frame. The Bison extended their lead to 13-2 after three quarters, before both teams scored three goals in the final eight minutes.

Michael Piper (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) tallied two goals in the defeat. John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Dmitriy Simonoff (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson), and Jamison Anton (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) completed the scoring with one goal each. Darren Stone (Joahnnesburg, South Africa/Glenwood Boys) recorded 10 saves in goal.

Gannon dropped to 10-9 with Saturday's opening loss. Bucknell improved to 15-13. The Golden Knights continue play at the CWPA Southern Division Championships Saturday evening against NCAA Division I George Washington. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
