Phoenix averaged a double-double last weekend for the Gannon men's basketball team during a pair of PSAC crossover games at West Chester and Cheyney. The sophomore forward averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent (16-28) from the floor and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line. He led both teams in scoring during his Gannon debut at West Chester, hitting 11-of-17 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws while scoring 25 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Phoenix became the first Golden Knight to score 25 points during the season opener since Aurimus Truskauskas had 27 during a 76-69 victory against C.W. Post in the 2006 opener. He recorded his first career double-double the next day with 19 points and 19 rebounds during an 81-48 victory at Cheyney. Phoenix converted 9-of-10 free throws against the Wolves. His 19 rebounds were the most by a Golden Knight since Aurimas Truskauskas had 20 at Edinboro on November 27, 2006.
