Syrena Hess

Hess begins her first year as an assistant athletic trainer at Gannon University in 2017-18. She will be the main athletic trainer for women's soccer, men's basketball and softball.

The Allentown, Pa., native arrives at Gannon after most recently serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at NCAA Division I Winthrop (S.C.) University of the Big South Conference for the last two years (2015-17).  Hess worked primarily with the women’s and men’s cross country teams, as well as the women’s and men’s track and field program. She also spent time as a teaching assistant at Winthrop.

Hess began her time in the profession as an athletic training student at West Chester (Pa.) University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) during her four years of undergraduate work (2011-15).  In addition to working with the West Chester football program and handling general athletic training room responsibilities, Hess also provided expertise at the time for Widener (Pa.) University fall sports and Henderson (Pa.) High School winter and spring sports.

Following her stay at West Chester, Hess spent a brief time as an athletic training intern for Camp Woodward where she provided medical coverage for over 700 active adolescents, professionals and Olympic athletics.

Hess graduated with a bachelor’s degree of science in Athletic Training from West Chester in 2015. She later earned her master’s degree of science in Sports and Fitness Administration from Winthrop in 2017. Hess is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
