Scavella begins his first season as a member of the Gannon coaching staff. However, the former 184-pound Golden Knight standout is a familiar name to wrestling fans.
The Erie, Pa., native was a four-year letterwinner (2004-08) at Gannon. Scavella ranks third all-time at Gannon in pins (34) and 12th in overall victories (83). He concluded his collegiate career with a 30-16 record in 2007-08, recording the 15th-highest single-season victory total in school history. Scavella led all NCAA Division II wrestlers with 19 pins as a senior, including 12 that came during the first period. It was the third-highest single-season total in school history.
Scavella was a two-time national qualifier. Academically, he was accorded National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Academic All-America accolades.
