Johnson is Gannon’s lone returning starter from last year’s NCAA Elite Eight team. The 6’3” guard is considered an excellent all-around player who has the potential for a break-out season in 2009-10.
The Arlington, Va., native is one of Gannon’s best defenders while being an efficient offensive player. Johnson is “one of the high-energy guys,” according to head coach John T. Reilly.
Sophomore Season: Was one of three Golden Knights to start every game ... ranked 11th among PSAC players and 104th among all NCAA Division II players in steals per game (1.8) ... led the team in free throw percentage, hitting 80 percent (28-35) of his attempts from the charity stripe ... was second on the team in three-pointers (40) and steals (61) ... scored a season-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting against Lock Haven ... reached double digits in scoring 12 times, including five of the last nine contests ... pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds against Edinboro ... hit at least one three-pointer in 25 of 34 games ... nailed all four attempts from behind the arc against Mercyhurst ... scored in every game, extending his streak of consecutive games with a point to 35.
Freshman Season: Played in 25 games as a true freshman, averaging 9.2 minutes off the bench ... began his collegiate career with a season-high 12 points and three rebounds in a season-opening victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny ... went 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range against the Nittany Lions ... reached double digits in playing minutes 10 times, including eight times in a 10-game span from January 19-February 16 ... averaged 17 minutes in Gannon’s final three post-season games ... recorded 15 points, eight rebounds and five three-pointers in those three playoff contests ... scored nine points against Findlay in the NCAA Tournament second round, his second-highest single-game total of the season ... hit at least one three-pointer in 11 games.
