Curtiss returns to the Gannon coaching staff for his ninth season in 2013. He previously served as an offensive assistant in a graduate-assistant role, but was elevated to full-time status as the offensive line coach in 2007. He has continued to serve in that role, in addition to being the program’s strength & conditioning coordinator, until 2011. Curtiss then added run game coordinator to his duties in 2012.

The Lansing, Mich., native will be in his 11th season as a coach after tutoring the tight ends and fullbacks at Saginaw Valley State for two seasons. The former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standout has quickly progressed throughout his coaching career. He originally tutored the running backs during his first season at Gannon. During the 2005 campaign, the Golden Knights averaged 138.7 rushing yards per game. Starting tailback Ron Bailey was among the GLIAC’s top 10 running backs despite missing the season finale with an injury. Bailey completed his senior season with 725 yards and seven touchdowns.

Following an impressive first season at Gannon, Curtiss received added responsibilities in 2006, moving his focus to the offensive tackles and tight ends. He tutored all-conference, all-region and all-america selection Sam Geldmaker. In 2009, his offensive line paved the way for a rushing attack that ranked third among PSAC teams and 35th nationally.

Curtiss played three seasons in the GLIAC. He was an offensive lineman for the Grand Valley State Lakers in 2000, before transferring to Saginaw Valley State for the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

At SVSU, Curtiss was a member of back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams. He made 25 consecutive starts on the offensive line and earned All-GLIAC honors. The Cardinals fell in the Northeast regional final in 2001 and regional semifinal in 2002. He was a two-year starter at Saginaw Valley State.

Prior to his playing days at SVSU, Curtiss was a two-time Offensive Lineman of the Year at North Dakota State College of Science. He was named to the all-conference first team twice and was a member of the 1999 Pepsi-Cola Bowl Champions.

Curtiss earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports and Fitness Management from Saginaw Valley State in 2005. He and his wife, Beth, reside in Erie with their daughter Grace (6) and son Luke (4).
