Gannon University head football coach Erik Raeburn announced the addition of Jake Kulig to his coaching staff in mid-March 2024. Kulig takes over as the defensive line coach.

“We are excited to add Jake Kulig to our staff," related Raeburn. "He helped the University of Albany to become one of the best defenses in the country at the FCS level and we can’t wait to see the impact he will make on our defense.”

Kulig joins the Golden Knight staff after previously serving as the defensive line coach at the University of Albany (NY) the last two years. He was part of a coaching staff in 2023 that led the Great Danes to an 11-4 finish, the most wins in school history. Albany won the CAA championship and advanced to the FCS semifinals, defeating Richmond and Idaho before losing to number one South Dakota State.

The Albany defense ranked first in the FCS in total sacks (50), rushing defense (87.7 ypg.), and turnovers gained (28), along with second in total TFLs (99) and seventh in red zone defense (70.4 pct.).

Kulig’s defensive line included first team AFCA All-American Anton Juncaj and AJ Simon, a first team FCS Central All-American.

Kulig began his coaching career at Susquehanna University as the defensive line/outside linebackers coach from 2017-19. He coached four All-Conference performers and two Defensive Rookies of the Year.
Next came a season at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2020, serving as a graduate assistant in charge of defensive tackles during the COVID-shortened season. Kulig then served as the defensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 2021. The defensive unit led the Centennial Conference in sacks.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Kulig graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Media Services from St. John Fisher in 2016. He was a three-year letterwinner for the Cardinals as a defensive lineman.  He helped the Cardinals to three-straight ECAC Bowl appearances and a berth into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2013.  St. John Fisher went 34-12 during his time on the team. Kulig earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2021.
