2008 Spring A Team - Pino Scavella

Membership in the Golden Knight’s “A” Team represents the very best in intercollegiate athletics. Thirty-four students have qualified by achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during the most recent completed semester. Gannon’s 341 student-athletes earned a cumulative GPA of 3.22 this past spring semester.

Pino Scavella finished out his last season with Gannon Wrestling with a 30-16 overall record and had 17 pins – the most pins recorded in all of the NCAA division II. Scavella started wrestling 165 as a freshman, and has continually moved up weight classes to 184 as a senior. He was also named Second Team Academic All-American during his junior year and First Team Academic All-American during his senior year. He is also a two-time NCAA division II National Qualifier.

“What I like about wrestling at the collegiate level is the discipline that I gained from the sport and how far I have come at juggling various activities. Also wrestling at the collegiate level helped to establish many long term friendships,” said Scavella. “Now that I have graduated my goal is to share my talent with upcoming wrestlers to help them achieve a successful wrestling career.”

Scavella is now working on his master’s degree in occupational therapy as part of Gannon’s 5-year Occupational Therapy program. This summer he is doing his first fieldwork rotation at the Golden Living Center in Erie.

”I chose occupational therapy because of the rewarding nature of this particular career, to be able to assist someone in the rehabilitation process and to see them to a successful recovery is very rewarding. When I graduate with my masters in occupational therapy I hope to work at a skilled nursing facility around the area.”

During his time at Gannon, Scavella was involved with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and a member of the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA). He is looking forward to being a graduate assistant this fall for the Gannon wrestling team.
