9341Gardener returns with starting experience at guard as a sophomore in 2016-17.

2015-16: Saw action in 25 games as a true freshman, starting nine … made his collegiate debut during the season opener at Clarion, receiving a starting assignment … recorded his first career point, rebound, assist, steal and block during a 70-67 victory against Shippensburg in the team’s third game of the season … finished the contest against the Red Raiders with six points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block … reached double digits in scoring for the first time with 11 points against Ashland during the Gary Miller Classic championship game … was perfect in four shots from the field and three attempts from the free throw line against the Eagles … started seven consecutive games from December 12-January 16 … named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Freshman of the Week on December 21 after averaging 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during  a pair of games against Edinboro and Pitt-Johnstown … shot 64.3 percent (9-14) from the field during the two-game span … earned PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Week again on January 4 following a 12-point, five-rebound effort at Kutztown … totaled a season-high 19 points and four rebounds at Slippery Rock, converting 11-of-12 free throws … poured in 17 points and six rebounds during an 80-79 overtime victory at Pitt-Johnstown … reached double digits in scoring seven times … grabbed at least three rebounds in a game 14 times … secured a season-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points against Edinboro … played double-digit minutes 17 times.

High School: Played for head coach Chris Smith at Kolbe Cathedral (Conn.) High School, before completing a post-graduate season under head coach Jere Quinn at St. Thomas More (Conn.) School … scored 1,344 points during his high school career … earned all-state and all-conference accolades two times each … selected to the Conference All-Tournament first team twice … was a two-time Connecticut Super 15 selection … named JCC All-Star Most Valuable Player … helped Kolbe Cathedral advance to the CIAC semifinals as a junior and conference championship game as a senior … played for former UConn star Chris Smith at Kolbe Cathedral … was part of a St. Thomas More team that finished as the 2014-15 NEPSAC Runner-Up, later advancing to the National Prep Championship semifinals.
