Biography

Jones returns as one of Gannon’s starting pitchers … started his collegiate career as an infielder and a pitcher, before turning his sole focus to pitching.

2012: Made six appearances before suffering a season-ending injury … started five contests … named a PSAC Scholar-Athlete ... received the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Award … named PSAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a three-hit shutout with a season-high nine strikeouts during a 1-0 victory against the University of Mary … finished the spring trip 2-0 following a complete-game 8-3 victory against Purdue North Central … struck out at least five hitters during three of his five starts … limited the opposition to a .207 average … held right-handers to a  .186 average (11-59) … limited opposing hitters to a .143 average (6-42) with the bases empty.

2011: Saw action in 25 games, starting 20 in four different positions … started nine games at third base, six at second base, four as a pitcher and one as a designated hitter … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … received the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award … tied for the team lead in pitching victories (3) … had the team’s fourth-lowest earned run average (4.83) while logging the sixth-most innings (31.2) … limited left-handed hitters to a .150 average (3-20) … allowed opposing batters to only hit .225 (16-71) with runners on base and .200 (8-40) with two outs … earned his first career victory with 2 1/3 innings of relief work during a 7-6 win against Indiana (Pa.), giving up zero hits while striking out four … picked up a second victory in relief with 2 2/3 innings of work during a 10-9 win against Lock Haven … secured his third victory during a 6-3 verdict against Clarion, surrendering two earned runs and striking out seven in six innings of work … added five hits during limited action in the batter’s box, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs during a 16-9 victory against the University of Mary (N.D.) at the Russ-Matt Invitational.

2010: Played in 40 games, all starts … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … received the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award … led Gannon with six home runs, representing the third-highest single-season total in school history … produced a team-high .483 slugging percentage … hit .333 (11-33) against left-handers, .313 (15-48) with the bases empty and .300 (3-10) with the bases loaded … recorded nine multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games … opened the season with a 3-for-8 showing, scoring once and driving in three runs … had two five-game hitting streaks … went 6-for-13 with four runs, four RBIs and three home runs during a four-game series against Lake Erie … blasted home runs in four consecutive games April 14-18 … went 3-for-3 with one run, three RBIs and two doubles during a 5-3 victory against Clarion … had two hits in four at-bats against IUP … added one run, three RBIs and a home run against the Crimson Hawks … opened the campaign with no errors during the first 18 games, a span of 57 fielding opportunities.

2009: Saw action in four games as a true freshman, all starts … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … made all four appearances during Gannon’s Spring Trip … went 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs during the second game of the season against St. Anselm … added a base on balls against the Hawks … also played against Davenport, Nebraska-Omaha and Lock Haven.
