CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) finished third overall to lead the Gannon men's golf team as the Golden Knights wrapped up the season-opening UC Invitational on Thursday at Berry Hills Country Club.
Gannon carded a 10-over 290 in the final round to move up two spots in the team standings and finish seventh in the 20-team field at 33-over 873. The Golden Knights posted rounds of 286, 297 and 290 over the 54-hole event.
Parrini entered the final round tied for sixth at 1-under and closed with a 1-over 71 to finish third overall at even-par 210. He posted rounds of 70, 69 and 71 during the tournament.
Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) also closed with a 1-over 71, matching Parrini for Gannon's lowest score of the final round. Seppanen moved up 18 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 23rd at 8-over 218 after rounds of 72, 75 and 71.
Jacob Wolak (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) climbed seven spots with a final-round 74, finishing tied for 34th at 11-over 221. Kyle Westfall (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (Erie)) also shot a 4-over 74 on Thursday and moved up five spots to finish tied for 54th at 14-over 224.
Vincent Lenze (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys Area) rounded out Gannon's five-player lineup, finishing at 38-over 248 following a final-round 82.
Three additional Golden Knights competed as individuals. Carson Moniz (Laramie, WY/Laramie) capped an impressive collegiate debut by finishing tied for 21st at 7-over 217. Moniz opened the tournament with a 3-under 67, the lowest round of the tournament by a Gannon golfer, before rounds of 75 and 75.
Anthony Laboda also made his collegiate debut and tied for 34th at 11-over 221 following rounds of 69, 78 and 74. Mario Estevez (Gijón, Spain/Colegio Montedeva de Gijón) finished tied for 45th at 13-over 223 after rounds of 75, 71 and 77.
