ERIE, Pa. — Gannon University Athletics has named men's golfer Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) and women's soccer midfielder/defender Maggie Piper (Stahlstown, Pa./Mt. Pleasant Area) as its Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 19.

Seppanen, a redshirt senior, helped lead the Gannon men's golf team to the PSAC Championship at Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon, Pa.

He finished tied for third individually at 2-over 218, carding rounds of 71, 75 and 72 over the three-day championship. Seppanen opened the tournament with a 1-under 71 and entered the final round among the top five before closing with an even-par 72.
His performance helped Gannon capture the team championship at 12-over, finishing nine strokes ahead of runner-up West Chester. It marked the Golden Knights' second PSAC team championship in the last three seasons.

Piper, a junior, played a key role in a perfect 2-0 week for the Gannon women's soccer team, scoring a goal in each victory.
She provided the game-winner in Gannon's 1-0 road victory over Adelphi on Wednesday, scoring in the 28th minute off an assist from Hannah Shepard (Erie, Pa./McDowell). The goal was Piper's third of the season and helped the Golden Knights record their ninth shutout while extending their winning streak to six matches.

Piper found the back of the net again Saturday in Gannon's 4-1 victory at Lock Haven, opening the scoring just 7:17 into the match off an assist from Jessie Watkins (Bowie, Md./Bowie). It marked her fourth goal of the season as the Golden Knights scored three times in the opening nine minutes and extended their winning streak to seven.
Piper finished the week with two goals in two matches as Gannon improved to 11-2-2 overall.
