RICHMOND, Va. – Gannon University freshman swimmer Mariia Melnyk (Kyiv, Ukraine/Education Center Optima) has been named to the 2025-26 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Individual Scholar All-America Second Team, as announced by the organization.

The CSCAA recognized more than 2,230 swimmers and divers on its 2025-26 Scholar All-America Team presented by Fitter & Faster Swim Camps.

To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship.

Second-Team selections, must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met an NIC "A" time standard in Division I or an NCAA "B" qualifying standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet for Division II, Division III, and NAIA.

A criminal justice major, Melnyk earned the national academic honor after posting a 3.774 cumulative grade point average.

Melnyk put together an outstanding freshman campaign for the Golden Knights, recording NCAA Division II qualifying times that met the NCAA "B" standard in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 100-yard backstroke.

In November against Case Western Reserve, she broke the school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.80 and was a member of the 400-yard medley relay team that tied the school record with a time of 3:53.87.

Later that month at the Malone Invitational, Melnyk lowered her own 100-yard freestyle record to 50.70 while also establishing school records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.42) and 100-yard backstroke (55.85).

Melnyk concluded the home season by setting the Carneval Athletic Pavilion pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.49 during the Golden Knights' January tri-meet against Malone and Oberlin.

Her three individual school records surpassed marks that had stood since 2021-22 in the 50-yard freestyle, 2020-21 in the 100-yard freestyle, and 2017-18 in the 100-yard backstroke.
