No. 5 Golden Knights Earn Two Seed in Atlantic Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced late Sunday night that the Gannon women's basketball team will make its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Div. II Atlantic Regional. The Golden Knights earned the second seed in the Atlantic Region.

Indiana (Pa.) was selected the number one seed and will serve as the host of the Atlantic Regional. The Crimson Hawks edged Gannon on Sunday 61-57 in the PSAC Championship game.

Head coach Cleve Wright's squad is in search of its third straight trip to the Elite Eight. The Golden Knights bring a record of 28-4 into the regional. Gannon finished as the PSAC West regular season champion and reached Sunday's PSAC Championship game with wins over Bloomsburg and Seton Hill.  Gannon will be making its sixth straight trip to NCAA Tournament and 17th overall.

Gannon, ranked fifth in the latest WBCA Division II Top 25, will face a familiar foe in its opening round game facing Edinboro. The number seven seed, the Fighting Scots lost to IUP in the PSAC semifinals and come in with a 19-13 record. Gannon and Edinboro split a pair of meetings this season with each winning on the other's homecourt.

IUP earned the PSAC's automatic berth and enters with a 26-3 record. The Crimson Hawks will face No. 8 Charleston (WV). The 21-10 Golden Eagles upset Glenville State, the top seed, in the Mountain East Conference championship game.

The other half of Gannon's bracket features No. 4 seed Seton Hill (21-8) playing No. 5 seed Fayetteville State (21-5).

CIAA champion Winston-Salem State (26-3) earned the number three seed and will square off against No. 6 Glenville State (24-6) to wrap up the Atlantic Regional field.   

First round games are set for Friday, March 13 at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Additional information on game times and tickets will be posted as available. The semifinals are on Saturday, March 14 and the regional champion will be crowned on Monday, March 16. The eight regional winners will move on to the NCAA Div. II Elite Eight in Pittsburgh, Pa. at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on March 24-28.
