Clontz’s Three-Home Run Day Powers Softball to Doubleheader Sweep

ERIE, PA – The Gannon softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Edinboro on Wednesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium, rallying for a 14-12 win in game one before securing a 5-2 victory in game two.

In the opener, Gannon battled back from multiple deficits in a high-scoring affair. The Golden Knights scored in five different innings, including a five-run fifth inning to get back into the game before trailing 12-10 late. Gannon then erupted for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a three-run home run from Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) to walk it off.

Jessica Westmiller (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) earned the win in relief, tossing 4.2 innings with four strikeouts to help stabilize the game and give Gannon a chance late.

Game two saw a more controlled performance from Gannon, as the Golden Knights plated two runs in the second and two more in the third to take an early 4-0 lead. Gannon added an insurance run in the sixth and leaned on a complete-game effort from Makenzie Wade (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) to secure the sweep.

Making her collegiate debut, Wade earned her first career win after allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out four across seven innings.
