ERIE, Pa. – The sixth ranked Golden Knights knew they had to find additional answers heading into their Atlantic Region semifinal game.
They did.
Following a heartbreaking PSAC Championship game loss to Cal (PA) a week ago in the Highmark Events Center, Gannon responded when the season was on the line, taking down the Vulcans, 89-73, to advance to the regional championship on Tuesday. Gannon will face Indiana (PA) for a fourth time to determine who advances to the Elite 8.
The first half was tightly contested, as was last Sunday's game. Gannon, in fact, went to the locker room up 42-35, the exact same score as the PSAC title game halftime score. But critical buckets and sublime defensive play down the stretch proved to be the difference.
Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) took the game into his own hands on Sunday. The sophomore poured in a career-high 30 points, a game high for all scorers. Prosser added six rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the win.
Precious Idiaru (Speyer, Germany/LA Premier Prep), after being held scoreless a week ago, added 12 points and eight boards, while
Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia/Marist Catholic College North Shore) added 11, scoring in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games.
Gannon's defense was superb from the perimeter, holding the Vulcans to just 4-18 from three point range and limiting their opponent to under 43% from the field in the second half.
With the win, Gannon improved to 30-3 on the season and earn a season split with Cal (PA), 2-2.
