Strong performances on the hardwood highlighted this week's Gannon Athletes of the Week honors as
Carissa Dunham (Fairview, Pa./Villa Maria) from the women's basketball team and
Mackenzie Morgan (Sydney, Australia/Marist Catholic College North Shore) from the men's basketball program delivered impactful efforts in PSAC play.
Dunham, returning from injury, has now appeared in four contests this season and logged a season-high 19 minutes in Gannon's PSAC win over California (Pa.). She finished a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range, scored six points, and added two assists and three rebounds in the victory.
Her final three-pointer of the day came at a critical moment. With 3:07 remaining in the third quarter and the score tied 37–37, Dunham knocked down the go-ahead three that sparked a 15–4 Gannon run to close the quarter. The momentum swing helped secure the home conference win and improved the No. 5 Golden Knights to 21–2 overall and 13–1 in PSAC play.
Morgan led Gannon's perimeter attack in a 115–87 PSAC win over California (Pa.), scoring 18 points in 22 minutes of action. He knocked down four three-pointers, went 4-for-4 at the free throw line, and added three rebounds and two steals in the win.
Morgan has started all 22 games for the Golden Knights this season and leads the team with 47 three-pointers while shooting .364 from beyond the arc. He also ranks second on the team with 47 steals, averaging 2.1 steals per game, and is averaging 11.1 points per game, which ranks fourth on the team. His performance helped the No. 6 Golden Knights improve to 20–2 overall and 13–1 in PSAC play while avenging their lone conference loss of the season.
Up next, the basketball teams return home on Wednesday, February 11 to host Edinboro for PNC Achievers Night. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow.
