ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's soccer team climbed to fifth in Super Region 1 and moved into the top spot among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams in the latest NCAA Division II National Power Index (NPI) rankings, released Monday, Oct. 19.
The Golden Knights, under eighth-year head coach
Billy Colton, enter the week with a 10-1-3 overall record and a 6-0-1 mark in PSAC West play.
Gannon improved two spots nationally from No. 24 to No. 22 with an NPI rating of 57.110, up from 56.619 in last week's initial rankings.
Gannon leads all PSAC programs in the national rankings, followed by Millersville (No. 34), Shepherd (No. 46), East Stroudsburg (No. 49) and West Chester (No. 70). The Golden Knights moved ahead of Millersville, which dropped from No. 20 to No. 34 nationally.
The latest rankings place Gannon fifth in Super Region 1, trailing first-place Charleston (W.Va.), second-place Davis & Elkins, third-place Southern New Hampshire and fourth-place Concord.
The NPI is a new ranking system adopted by Division II for the 2026-27 academic year to help evaluate teams for NCAA Tournament selection. The system uses a data-driven formula that considers a team's wins and losses, strength of schedule and quality of opponents.
Unlike traditional rankings, the NPI evaluates teams on a national scale, allowing programs from different conferences and regions to be compared using the same system.
Rankings for men's and women's soccer will continue to be released every Monday before transitioning to daily updates, Monday through Friday, beginning the week of Oct. 26.
The Golden Knights enter the week following a 3-0 victory over California (Pa.) on Wednesday and a 3-1 road win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.
Gannon returns to PSAC West action Wednesday, Oct. 21, when it hosts Slippery Rock at McConnell Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Golden Knights will then travel to Greensburg, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 24, to face Seton Hill at 1 p.m.
