Thank You, Bob! Shreve to Retire From Full Time Duties at Gannon

ERIE, PA - There are few individuals across the country who have compiled as impressive a resume in athletic communications as Bob Shreve. Today (September 30th) marks the end of a remarkable career, as Shreve is retiring from his full time duties with Gannon Athletics. He will continue to work with the department in a part-time role, beginning in October.

"I was very fortunate to find an occupation that was perfect for me," said Shreve. "My second go-around at Gannon has been very special. I think it made for a fitting conclusion to something I loved to do. I'll continue to help out this fall in any way I can, on a part-time basis. To the many student-athletes and coaches I have worked with, thanks for giving me so many memories. To the GA's and others I have worked along the way, thanks for making me look so good!"

Shreve previously served as Gannon's director of sports information and promotions from 1990-98 before assuming the same role at Edinboro University for the next 22 years. He returned to Gannon in August of 2021 as the Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations. In all, Shreve has more than four decades of athletics experience.

Shreve has a long list of career accomplishments and achievements. Most recently, he was honored with the Lester Jordan Award, presented each year to an individual for exemplary service to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete.

"Bob has dedicated many years of service not only to Gannon Athletics, but to countless student-athletes, coaches, and fans in our community, conference, and region," said Meghan Morphy, Director of Athletics. "We are truly grateful for his leadership in our department and the industry throughout his career. While we will miss having Bob in the office, we wish him all the best in retirement and look forward to having Bob and his family continue to support our Golden Knights in this next chapter. Thank you, Bob!"

A 1980 graduate of Notre Dame, Shreve began his career in sports information in 1982 at Frostburg State College. After two years at Frostburg State, he spent four years as the sports information director at Mercyhurst before moving into professional baseball.

He would spend two years as the general manager of the Erie Orioles, a Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the New York-Penn League, before returning to the sports information profession as the sports information director at West Chester.

After a year at West Chester, Shreve returned to his hometown in 1990, taking over as the sports information director at Gannon. He worked with the Golden Knights until 1998, when he left to assume the same role at Edinboro.

Shreve has been an active participant in other area sporting events. He was the long-time public address announcer for the Erie SeaWolves – the Class AA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers – until assuming duties of the official scorer, a position he still holds. In addition, he was a statistician for the Erie BayHawks, Erie's professional basketball team in the NBA G-League. Other duties include serving as a statistics coordinator at the McDonald's Classic and Burger King Classic since 1990. Shreve also works at McDowell High School for several of their athletic events.

The Erie, Pa., native has earned numerous College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) awards for his publications, including several First in the Nation for Men's Basketball Media Guides at Gannon three times, plus First in the Nation for Football Media Guides at both Mercyhurst and Edinboro. In addition, he has helped publicize numerous All-Americans, including Gannon basketball student-athlete Troy Nesmith, who was recognized as the national player of the year, and two-time Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist Trevor Harris of Edinboro.

He has been an active supporter of the Academic All-America program, serving as a district coordinator since 1993, before moving up to a national coordinator role. He was the national coordinator for the D2CCA (formerly Daktronics) Men's Basketball All-America Team since 1996 until stepping down after the 2017 season.

Shreve received a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Notre Dame in 1980. He proceeded to earn a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1981.
