Playing inside the Highmark Events Center for the first time since Dec. 2, 2023, the Gannon volleyball team delivered an electric performance, sweeping Shepherd in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-19).
The evening opened with a ring ceremony honoring the 2024 Atlantic Region champions and closed with history, as the Golden Knights secured the 1,000th win in program history.
The milestone sweep came against a Shepherd squad picked as the preseason favorite in the PSAC East and an NCAA tournament contender, adding even greater weight to the accomplishment.
Head coach
Matt Darling reflected on the milestone afterward:
"I remember when I got here, I looked down and it was around 560 wins, and I thought, 'Wow, we're a long way off.' I can't believe I'm still here, but that just speaks to the great history of the program — those pioneers who started women's sports at universities and all the great work Gerry did to make this an elite program. I'm happy to continue that legacy."
