Bowers, Kotskar Named Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Women's cross country student-athlete Emily Bowers (Silver Creek, N.Y./Silver Creek) and men's water polo player Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh) have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of September 21. This marks the third week honoring Gannon's Student-Athlete of the Week and encompasses events through Sunday.

The Gannon women's cross country team ran for the second time in 2025 but this marked the initial appearance for Bowers. The sophomore did not compete in the season-opening Race in the Park but more than made up for it on Saturday while competing in the YSU Collegiate Meet. She posted a second-place finish among 46 runners while covering the 5K course in a personal record time of 18:36.41. She knocked 38 seconds off her previous best time over a 5K course.

The Gannon men's water polo team dropped a pair of tight contests to strong competition in Air Force and Salem, but through no fault of Kotskar. The native of Greece was in near record form in the Salem match. He matched his career-high of 10 goals, one shy of the school record. He previously scored 10 goals vs. Penn State Behrend in 2023. The Golden Knights suffered a 19-16 loss to Salem.

Head coach Zarko Sadikovic had ear-marked Air Force as one of the top games for Gannon this season. In Sunday's opening match the Golden Knights battled the Falcons on even terms before falling in the final minute 19-18. Kotskar contributed six points on three goals and three assists, adding three defensive exclusion.
