Four Gannon Teams Earn PSAC Top Team GPA Awards

Men's and women's cross country, men's swimming and men's wrestling post top team GPA's

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) today completed its review of academic success for its members for the 2024-25 season with Gannon's student-athletes once again shining.

On Tuesday 290 Golden Knights (150 women, 140 men) were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes. On Wednesday the PSAC announced its Pete Nevins Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Now the third of three days of academic awards finds the PSAC releasing its Top Team GPA Awards for the 2024-25 academic year. The Top Team GPA Awards are in their 14th year of existence and are issued across 21 PSAC-sponsored sports. The awards, released at the conclusion of every academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC.

Gannon had the PSAC-high GPA in four sports – men's and women's cross country, men's swimming and men's wrestling. The women's cross country team compiled a GPA of 3.793 as 13 runners were honored as PSAC Scholar-Athletes. The 3.793 GPA was the highest among all sports, and Gannon also had the second-highest figure as the men's cross country team had 3.746 team GPA. Thirteen men's harriers were also accorded Scholar-Athlete honors. The men's swimming team posted a team GPA of 3.616 while the men's wrestling team opened the top GPA in the PSAC at 3.180.

All told, 15 of Gannon's 16 teams that compete in the PSAC recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.000 or better. They include: women's swimming (3.644), women's basketball (3.573), volleyball (3.555), women's lacrosse (3.549), softball (3.515), women's soccer (3.507), women's golf (3.506), men's golf (3.457), baseball (3.403), men's soccer (3.348), and men's basketball (3.117).

Gannon finished with an overall program GPA of 3.468, the second-highest figure in the PSAC. Slippery Rock finished with an overall program GPA of 3.489.

Gannon has now had at least two teams recognized for the top team GPA in all 14 years the PSAC has honored top team GPA's. That includes a high of seven teams in 2017-18.

In addition, this year's program cumulative GPA of 3.468 is the 14th straight season with an overall GPA of 3.2 or better, every year of the program's existence. In seven of the last eight years Gannon student-athletes have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better. In 2018-19 the GPA was 3.398.

Slippery Rock led the PSAC with five different teams with conference-high GPAs, with Gannon and Seton Hill each claiming four teams with conference-best marks. East Stroudsburg had three teams that were tops in the league. Nine different teams produced a top GPA team.
