Women’s Lacrosse rolls past Edinboro for second straight win

Lacrosse extends win streak to two; Hunter and Stevens lead offensive barrage with four goals apiece.

The Gannon women's lacrosse team surged to its first PSAC West victory of the season in commanding fashion, overpowering Edinboro 16–2 on Wednesday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.

The win also marked the Golden Knights second straight, improving their record to 4–6 overall and 1–2 in the PSAC west.

With the 16–2 rout, the Golden Knights extended their dominance over their Erie County rivals, marking their seventh straight victory against Edinboro in the series—a streak that dates back to 2019.

Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) tied her season-high with four goals, matching Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool), who also found the net four times and added an assist in a standout performance. Both were instrumental in a high-octane offensive showing that saw the Knights score 11 goals in the first half alone.

The scoring started early, with Rayla Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) converting a free-position shot that was less than a minute into the game. From there, Avrey Kirisits (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) took over the first quarter, notching a hat trick within a six-minute span to give Gannon a 4–0 lead after one. Kirisits finished with three goals on the day.

The Golden Knights continued to pile on in the second quarter, with Hunter and Stevens each scoring twice before halftime. Ella Todd (Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Maple Ridge Secondary) contributed two goals and two assists, while Smith completed her hat trick in the second half—two of her goals coming on free-position attempts.

Defensively, Gannon was just as dominant. Head Coach Jennifer Pawlowski's squad shut out Edinboro in the first half and held the Fighting Scots to just seven shots on goal for the entire game. The two-goal performance by the defense matched a mark last seen in 2018 when Gannon earned a 15–2 win—tied for ninth in program history for the fewest goals allowed in a game.

Goalie Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) earned the win between the pipes, making five saves over three quarters of action.
