The Gannon women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon in PSAC West action. Despite a strong fourth-quarter push and balanced scoring from multiple players, the Golden Knights couldn't overcome a second-period surge by the Crimson Hawks.
With this loss, Gannon's record stands at 4-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play, while IUP improves to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC West.
Ella Todd (Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Maple Ridge Secondary) and
Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) each scored twice to lead the Gannon offense, with
Avrey Kirisits (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central),
Alyssa Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area), and
Megan Lang (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) each adding a goal.
Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) and
Rayla Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) contributed an assist apiece.
The Golden Knights trailed by just one early in the second quarter following Lang's goal that tied the game 3-3, but IUP responded with a 4-0 run to close the half and carried the momentum through the third.
Goalkeeper
Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) made 10 saves in 42 minutes of action before giving way to
Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo), who added two more stops in the final stretch.
Gannon held a 13-10 edge in draw controls and was perfect on clear attempts (8-for-8), but struggled to maintain possession with 22 turnovers. The Golden Knights were outshot 38-16 overall and 22-11 in shots on goal.
