Burgess Earns All-American Honors with Fourth-Place Finish at 160 lbs.

Gannon finishes 14th at NCWWC National Championships

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Nyla Burgess (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering High School) won three of four matches on Saturday as the 2025 NCWWC Women's Wrestling National Championships wrapped up. The impressive showing by the senior led to All-American honors and a fourth place finish, the highest ever by a Golden Knight at the national championships. The event is being held at the Extream Arena and hosted by the University of Iowa.
 
Competing at 160 lbs., Burgess won her first two matches to reach the quarterfinals before losing by technical fall to East Stroudsburg's Tiffani Baublitz. The transfer from Adrian College advanced through the consolation rounds on Saturday, winning three decisions to reach the third place match.
 
That left her facing Baublitz again, and she would drop a 9-0 decision. But Burgess went 5-2 in the two days at Nationals to end the year with a 28-8 record and a fourth place showing. She is now a three-time All-American, previously earning the honor in 2022 and 2023 at Adrian. She was making her fourth trip to Nationals.
 
Jayden Bazemore (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) also competed on Saturday. The junior was eliminated in her first match on Saturday, a 13-2 technical fall to Cali Leng of Iowa at 124 lbs. She went 3-2 at Nationals to end the year at 23-8.
 
Gannon ended up finishing 14th out of 64 teams. Iowa won the national championship with 196 points, with North Central second (181 pts.) and McKendree third (154.5 pts.).
