Softball Drops Two in PSAC West Doubleheader

Mallozzi went 4 for 4, and Clontz hit a home run in game one.

The Gannon University softball team dropped both ends of Thursday's PSAC West doubleheader at McConnell Family Stadium on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-2 in extra innings in the opener before a 5-2 setback in Game two.

In the opener,Ā Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong)Ā gave the Golden Knights an early spark with a solo home run in the first inning—her fourth of the season.

Gannon pulled even again in the fourth whenĀ Corrine Wright (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe)Ā scored on a throwing error by theĀ Slippery Rock rightĀ fielderĀ following a single fromĀ Natalia Mallozzi (Woodbridge, Ontario/Father Bressani Catholic),Ā who led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance.

Despite a late push with runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, the Golden Knights couldn't bring the tying runs across.

Game two saw Gannon once again battle back after falling behind early. A two-run single fromĀ Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City)Ā in the fourth inning platedĀ Lindsay Breuer (Mason, Ohio/Mason)Ā andĀ Alaina Whipkey (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), cutting the deficit to 4-2. However, the Golden Knights were limited to just two hits in the contest and were unable to overcome the early deficit.

The Golden Knights return to action onĀ Saturday, March 29, hostingĀ Katie's Kids DayĀ at McConnell Family Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled forĀ 1:00 p.m.
