ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's wrestling team concluded the regular season inside the Highmark Events Center. In gearing up for regional competition next week, the Golden Knights fell to visiting Lehigh, 28-18.

The Golden Knights took to the mat and started fast. At 103 lbs, Chloe Kitagawa (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) earned a forfeit victory. Then, at 110 lbs, Jada Badayos-Chavez built an early lead but failed to hold on as Lehigh earned a fall at 5:24.

GU built momentum at 117 and 124 lbs. Brielle Larsen (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) had to dig deep with key takedowns in the second period to claim the win, 10-4.
 Jayden Bazemore (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) then followed up that performance with a successful one of here own at 124. Building on an early advantage, the junior kept the momentum throughout, scoring a 10-0 victory to pad the Golden Knights advantage.

Lehigh earned their first non-forfeit win at 131 lbs with a fall at 1:59. The visitors followed it up with a fall at 1:09 at 138 lbs to take a 16-12 lead.
 
160 & 180 lbs featured two Golden Knights in the top 15 in the nation. No. 11 Nyla Burgess (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering High School) took home a win by fall at 1:05, while Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) battled hard late in the second period, but ultimately fell, 13-8. Lehigh won 207 lbs via forfeit to close the dual with a 28-18 victory.
 
Gannon travels to Tiffin, Ohio next Saturday, February 22 to compete in the NCWWC Regional. GU had six national qualifiers and two regional champs last season.
