No. 21 Golden Knights Upset Pair of Ranked Teams at Adrian Duals

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Gannon women's wrestling team opened the dual portion of its 2025-26 season on Saturday facing a strong field in the Adrian Duals. The 21st-ranked Golden Knights, under third-year head coach Erin Vandiver, battled to a 2-2 finish while facing a trio of ranked teams.

The day began with a 32-15 win over Tiffin, who came in tied for 18th in the national rankings. No. 2 McKendree handed the Golden Knights a  41-1 loss and the Golden Knights suffered a second straight setback by a 25-21 margin to Sacred Heart. Gannon ended the day with a 29-15 win over host Adrian. The Bulldogs were also tied for 18th nationally.

The Golden Knights will remain in Adrian to take part in the Adrian Invite on Sunday.

Recapping the Matches:
No. 21 Gannon 32, No. 18 Tiffin 15                            
-- The Golden Knights won the last four matches to pull away for the win over the 18th-ranked Dragons.
-- Hannah McFarley (117 lbs.) and Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) (145) won by falls while Joelle Scott (Cranesville, Pa./SPIRE Institute) picked up a 12-1 technical fall at 131 lbs. Sixth-ranked Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) won by 11-2 at 180 lbs. Gannon received three forfeit wins.

No. 2 McKendree 41, No. 21 Gannon 1
-- A strong McKendree team dominated the action winning seven bouts by technical fall and two by fall. Gannon picked up its point courtesy of Rose Cassioppi (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) at 160 lbs. The junior fell 12-2.

Sacred Heart 25, No. 21 Gannon 21
-- Gannon's rally came up just short. The Golden Knights picked up wins at 145 (Ujfalvi 13-2), 160 (Cassioppi default 3:15) and 180 (Phillips 11-0) but Sacred Heart came back to win with a fall at 207 lbs.
-- Jada Badayos-Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel High), ranked ninth, and McCarley claimed Gannon's other wins. Badayos-Chaves won a 12-8 decision at 103 lbs. and McCarley won by fall at 1:52.  

No. 21 Gannon 29, No. 18 Adrian 15
-- The Golden Knights picked up a second win over a ranked opponent, and a second win over a team tied for 18th in the national rankings. The two teams split the first six matches but Gannon won the final four to pull away.
-- Ujfalvi, who went 3-1 on the day, picked up a 9-7 decision at 145 lbs. to give the Golden Knights the lead for good.  Cassioppi also went 3-1 thanks to a 10-0 technical fall at 160 lbs. and Phillips won an 8-1 decision at 180 lbs. The 2025 All-American was also 3-1. Freshman Caroline Biegel (Ringwood, N.J./DePaul Catholic) capped the win with a 10-0 technical fall at 207 lbs.
